How do I ask a mentee to take an assessment?

Ask a mentee by email to take the Health of a Christian Leader Assessment, or to take it again. You can then see when they have done it.

  • Mentors
  • Web
  • iPhone
  • iPad

If a mentee has never taken the Health of a Christian Leader Assessment (HCLA), you can ask them to. You can also ask when their last one is getting old. We send them an email with a link straight to the assessment.

It is always their choice whether to take it, and when.

How do I ask?

On the web

  1. Select Mentees in the sidebar, then select your mentee.
  2. Find Ask for an assessment, below their check-ins.
  3. Select Ask them to complete it. If they have started or taken the HCLA before, the button says Ask them to take it again.
Ask for an assessment, on your mentee's page.

A message confirms it, such as “Asked. They will get an email inviting them to take it again.” The panel then shows the date you asked.

After you have asked.

On iPhone and iPad

The Verve Lead app for iPhone and iPad is in testing.

  1. Open Mentoring and tap your mentee.
  2. Scroll to Ask for an assessment.
  3. Tap Ask them to complete it. If they have completed the HCLA before, the button says Ask them to take it again.
Asking from iPhone.

For now, you can only ask for the HCLA this way. You cannot ask for the Christian Leader Mentor Assessment from the web or the app.

What does my mentee receive?

They get an email from Verve Lead, headed “A request from your mentor”. It says you have asked whether they would complete the HCLA – or take it again – with a button to start.

The email also tells them:

  • it is entirely up to them whether they do this, and when
  • you see their results only because they have already agreed to share them.

It never contains scores or results.

The email does not carry a personal message from you. A few words of your own – “Would you mind doing this before we catch up?” – usually land better than the email alone. Send them a note or mention it when you next talk.

Can I ask again?

Yes, but only once a week for each mentee. Until a week has passed, the button is greyed out and the panel says “you can ask again a week after that”.

If we cannot send the email, we record nothing, and you can try again straight away.

If you are a mentor of mentors, you can also ask the mentees of mentors you supervise. Your requests are counted separately from their mentor’s.

How will I know they have done it?

When your mentee finishes their own answers, the panel shows “completed” and the date.

If they took it as a personal reflection, we email you to say their results are in, with a link to them. Like the request, this email carries no scores. If you asked as a mentor of mentors, the email goes to their own mentor instead.

A personal reflection then appears in their HCLA Assessment History, ready to view. See viewing a mentee’s results. If they asked others for feedback (a 180° or 360°), it is listed there with its status but, for now, without a View Results link.

Still not sure?

Ask us and a real person will answer. If you lead an organisation and would like to see Verve Lead with your own leaders in mind, we would be glad to show you around.
