How do I use the mentee brief and my private notes?

The brief gathers a mentee's recent check-ins and latest results into one page to read before you meet. Your notes help you remember what you talked about, and only you can read them.

Before you sit down with a mentee, it helps to see where they have been. Start from the Mentees page, and select your mentee. Their page shows their recent results, and your notes sit at the bottom. Your notes are yours. In Verve Lead, only you can read them. To keep a note, type in the box that says Add a note about this mentee. Then select Add Note. Your note appears at the top of the list, with the date and time you wrote it. For the brief, select Print Brief. The brief gathers their recent check-ins and latest results on one page. It does not include your notes. A printed brief includes your mentee’s check-in notes, and says do not share without consent. Keep it as carefully as you would keep their confidence. You will find the full guide, with pictures, in the Verve Lead help guides.

Before you sit down with a mentee, it helps to see where they have been. The brief puts their recent check-ins and latest results on one page.

After you meet, your private notes help you remember what you covered and what to follow up. Nobody else can read them in Verve Lead.

What is in the brief?

The brief is a short summary of one mentee:

  • their recent check-ins, with the average level
  • their latest Health of a Christian Leader Assessment (HCLA) results.

It does not include your notes.

On the web

  1. Select Mentees in the sidebar, then select your mentee.
  2. Select Print Brief at the top right. The brief opens in a new tab.
  3. Read it on screen, or select Print / Save PDF to print it or keep a copy.
Print Brief sits at the top of every mentee's page.

The printed brief shows:

  • Buoyancy – the average of their last 10 check-ins, then each one with its date, its level out of 6 and any note they added
  • HCLA Assessment – their latest overall score and the 3 area scores, plus up to 2 earlier assessments for comparison.

On iPhone and iPad

The Verve Lead app for iPhone and iPad is in testing.

  1. Open Mentoring and tap your mentee.
  2. Tap Brief (the document icon) at the top right.
  3. Read the Mentor brief: their latest check-in, the average and trend of their recent check-ins, and their latest HCLA score out of 100.
  4. To keep a copy, tap the share button at the top right. It shares a short text summary.

The app’s brief counts your notes but never includes them. The shared summary leaves out your mentee’s check-in notes too. If part of the brief could not load, the app says so and holds back sharing until it loads properly.

How do I keep notes?

Your notes sit at the bottom of each mentee’s page.

On the web

  1. Open your mentee and scroll to Your Notes.
  2. Type in the box that says “Add a note about this mentee…”.
  3. Select Add Note.
Your Notes, at the bottom of a mentee's page.

Your notes are listed newest first, each with the date and time you wrote it.

To delete a note, point to it and select the bin icon that appears, then confirm. You cannot undo this. You cannot change a note on the web. To correct one, add a new note and delete the old one, or edit it in the app.

On iPhone and iPad

  1. Open your mentee and scroll to Private reflections. It is marked Visible only to you.
  2. Tap Add a note.
  3. Write your note. If you like, link it to one of their completed HCLA assessments under Link to an assessment (optional).
  4. Tap Save.
