Once you accept a mentor, they can see parts of your information. Here is what they see. Your mentor opens your page from their list of mentees. Here is one person’s page. At the top, they see your current check-in level, your latest HCLA, and when you last signed in and joined. Next, they see your check-in trend, and every check-in you make, with its time and any note. That includes check-ins from before they became your mentor, and from the iPhone and iPad app, which is in testing. If something is just for you, leave the note empty. They also see every HCLA you have taken, including earlier ones, and on a finished one, your own answer to each statement. Before a conversation, your mentor can print a short brief. The panel headed Your Notes belongs to your mentor. Only they can read it. You cannot see it, and neither can anyone who supervises your mentor. If you check in at one or two, your mentor gets an email with your level and your note. Here is an example, about another leader. The full guide, with pictures, is in the Verve Lead help guides.

Mentoring works best when you both know where the edges are. Your mentor sees nothing until you accept their request. Once you do, here is what they see, what they are told, and who else can see your information.
What does my mentor see?
| What | What your mentor sees |
|---|---|
| Check-ins | Every check-in you make on the web or in the iPhone and iPad app – the level, the time and any note. That includes check-ins from before they became your mentor. |
| HCLA results | Every Health of a Christian Leader Assessment you have taken, with your scores for each area and behavioural expression. On a completed assessment, they also see your own answer to each statement. An assessment you have started but not yet finished shows in their list too. |
| Feedback from others | On a 180° or 360°, your combined scores, which blend your own answers with everyone else’s. For now, they cannot open its full results. They never see each person’s answers, or who gave them. |
| Mentor assessment | If you have taken the Christian Leader Mentor Assessment, your results and its PDF report. |
| Your details | Your name and email, the date you last signed in, and the date you joined. |
The Verve Lead app for iPhone and iPad is in testing.
There is no setting to keep a check-in back from your mentor. If something is just for you, leave the note empty.
Before a conversation, your mentor can print a one-page brief with your recent check-ins, including notes, and your latest HCLA.
Will my mentor be told when something happens?
- A low check-in. If you check in at 1 or 2, your mentor gets an email with your level and your note. They get at most one of these emails about you in any 24 hours.
- A finished assessment. When you complete a Personal Reflection HCLA, your mentor gets an email saying your results are in. The email carries no scores.
- The watchlist. Your mentor sees a watchlist of the people they mentor. It flags a latest check-in of 1 or 2, or a gap of more than 30 days since your last one. It also flags any area of your latest completed HCLA that falls below a set level. It shows those signals, not your notes or answers.
Your mentor can also ask you to take the HCLA again. You get an email, and it is your choice whether to take it.
What about my mentor’s own notes?
Mentors can keep private notes about each person they mentor, to help them prepare and remember. Only the mentor who wrote a note can read it.
You cannot see these notes, and neither can anyone who supervises your mentor. A mentor of mentors who supervises your mentor can keep their own notes about you in the same way.
How do I end the relationship?
Either of you can end it at any time – see how to end it. Being removed from your organisation ends it too, and your administrator can remove your mentor.
You have one mentor at a time. If you already have a mentor and accept a new request, your new mentor takes over, and your earlier mentor can no longer see your check-ins or results.
When it ends, your mentor can no longer open your check-ins, your results or the notes they kept about you. Low check-in emails stop, and you leave their watchlist.
Ending the relationship cannot recall emails already sent, or anything your mentor printed or downloaded. We do not delete their notes. If you accept them as your mentor again, they can read those notes again.
What should I do next?
- If a request is waiting, read how to respond to a mentor request.
- Before you add a note to a check-in, see doing your daily check-in.
- If something here is unclear, contact us before you accept.
