How do I read my HCLA results?
A walk through your Health of a Christian Leader Assessment results – the overall picture, your strengths and growth areas, and the detail behind each one.
- Leaders
- On your own
- Web
Your results show how you are travelling across 3 areas of a Christian leader’s health:
- psychological well-being
- spiritual vitality
- transformative leadership.
Inside those areas sit 25 behavioural expressions – things a leader does, rather than how they feel on a given day.
There are no right answers and no pass mark. Your results are a place to start a conversation, ideally with a mentor who asks good questions.
Where do I find my results?
Go to Assessments and open a completed Health of a Christian Leader Assessment. The page opens on HCLA Results.
Along the top are 4 actions:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Share (the share icon) | Emails your report as a PDF to an address you enter. You also choose how the person relates to you, such as Mentor or Spouse, and the email says so. |
| Download (the arrow icon) | Downloads your report as a PDF. |
| Mentor Questions | Opens reflection questions chosen for your results, ready to print for a mentoring conversation. |
| Take Again | Takes you to start a new assessment, so you can compare over time. |
If you have a mentor, you may also see a Next step card. It lets you share your results with a mentor who has asked to see them, or book a time with your mentor if they have added a booking link.
When you use Share, the person gets an email like this, with your report attached as a PDF.
The overall picture
The first panel shows your overall score out of 100, a score for each of the 3 areas, and a triangle chart of all 3. It also says how many responses the result is based on – your own, plus anyone you asked for feedback.
Some pages show the same result as a total out of 125. For example, 77.8 out of 125 is 62 out of 100.
Look at the shape as well as the numbers. A leader who is strong in leadership but flat in well-being is carrying a risk the overall number can hide.
Strengths and areas to grow
Below the overall picture are 3 panels:
- Core Index Health repeats your 3 area scores.
- Top Strengths lists your 5 highest behavioural expressions.
- Development Areas lists your 5 lowest.
Your development areas are often the best place to start. Pick 2 or 3 to talk through, rather than trying to work on everything at once.
Suggested reading
Suggested reading offers articles chosen for your development areas, each with a line naming the behavioural expression behind it.
Under the list, you can choose to get one recommended article a week by email. The email never includes your scores, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
The detail behind each score
All Behavioural Expressions lists all 25, grouped by area. Select any one to see the statements behind it.
The breakdown shows each statement and how each person answered it, from 1 (Not true of me) to 4 (Very true of me).
If you asked others for feedback, their answers appear in their own columns, labelled by their relationship to you – for example Spouse or Peer – rather than by name.
Some people gave feedback when raters were told their answers would be anonymous. Their answers still count towards your scores, but are not shown one by one. The breakdown says when this applies.
What should I do next?
- Pick 2 or 3 development areas that ring true.
- Read one of the suggested articles.
- Open Mentor Questions and print them for your next mentoring conversation.
- Take the assessment again in 6 to 12 months to see what has changed.
