A mentor can walk alongside you best when they know how you are going. So when a mentor is proposed for you, Verve Lead asks you first. Nothing about your check-ins or results reaches them until you say yes. A mentor request arrives by email, with Accept and Decline buttons. Either button records your answer once you are signed in. The request also appears on your dashboard. Until you have completed the assessment, the Your first steps card puts it first. To read it, select Review first. The Mentor request page says who is asking, and what they will be able to see. Read the request, then choose. To connect, select Accept. The page confirms your answer. Sarah Mentor can now see your check-ins and assessment results. That includes check-ins and results from before they became your mentor, and any notes you add. You have one mentor at a time. Accepting a new request ends your earlier mentor’s access. You can change your mind at any time. Open your profile. Under Mentoring relationships, select End relationship, then confirm. Your mentor’s access stops straight away. If you would rather not connect, decline instead. On the Mentor request page, select Decline. The page then says that no connection has been made, and nothing has been shared. Verve Lead does not email the mentor, but your organisation’s audit log records your answer. You cannot reopen a declined request. If you change your mind, ask your administrator to send it again. The guide called What can my mentor see? sets out the full detail.

Narration is AI-generated. Every screen is from our demo environment – an invented organisation and people.

A mentor walks alongside you, and they can do that best when they can see how you are travelling. So we ask you first. Nothing about your check-ins or results reaches a mentor until you accept their request.

Why have I been sent a request?

You get a request when:

  • your organisation’s administrator chooses a mentor for you
  • you join an organisation through an invitation that names a mentor, or that a mentor sent you.

Joining an organisation and accepting a mentor are 2 separate decisions. Accepting an invitation to join never shares your results on its own.

Where will I see it?

  • In your email. The email says the person has been assigned as your mentor, and has Accept and Decline buttons. Choosing either one records your answer as soon as you are signed in. There is no second step.
  • On your dashboard. If you have not yet completed the Health of a Christian Leader Assessment (HCLA), the Your first steps card puts the request first. Otherwise, a Mentor request card appears.
  • On your HCLA results. A Next step card asks whether to share your results with them.
  • On your profile. It appears under Mentoring relationships as a Pending mentor request.
A new member's dashboard puts the request first.
After your first HCLA, a request has a card of its own.

How do I answer on the web?

  1. Go to your Dashboard.
  2. On the Your first steps card, select Review first. (On a Mentor request card, you can instead select Accept or Decline on the card itself. That records your answer straight away.)
  3. The Mentor request page says who is asking and what they will be able to see.
  4. Select Accept or Decline.
Read the request, then choose.

The page then confirms your answer. If you decline, it says that no connection has been made and nothing has been shared.

If a request is waiting when you open your HCLA results, a Next step card offers to share them.

Share with your mentor, or book a time.

How do I answer on iPhone and iPad?

The Verve Lead app for iPhone and iPad is in testing.

  1. Open the app to Home.
  2. On the Your first steps card, tap Review. If you have already completed the HCLA, tap the banner that says A mentor has asked to connect with you.
  3. Mentor requests shows each request. Tap Accept or Decline.
  4. If you decline, you can add a note before you confirm.
The request on Home.
Accept or decline.

We keep any note you add when declining with your answer. We do not show it to the mentor or to your organisation.

Your results in the app have the same Next step card. Its share button, such as Share with Sarah, accepts the request too.

What changes when I accept?

  • Your mentor can see your check-ins, including any notes, and your assessment results. That includes ones from before they became your mentor.
  • If you check in at 1 or 2, your mentor gets an email with your level and your note.
  • A mentor of mentors who supervises your mentor can see the same.
  • Your organisation’s audit log records that you accepted.
  • You have one mentor at a time. If you already have a mentor and accept a new request, your new mentor takes over, and your earlier mentor can no longer see your check-ins or results.

What can my mentor see? sets out the full detail.

What happens if I decline?

We share nothing and make no connection. We do not email the mentor to tell them, but your organisation’s audit log records your answer.

You cannot reopen a request once you have declined it. If you change your mind, ask your organisation’s administrator to send the request again.

Can I change my mind after accepting?

Yes, at any time. Your mentor’s access stops straight away.

  • On the web, go to Profile. Under Mentoring relationships, select End relationship beside your mentor, then confirm.
  • On iPhone and iPad, go to Settings. Under My mentor, tap Revoke mentor access, then Revoke access.
End a mentoring relationship from your profile.
Or from Settings on iPhone.

Your mentor can end the relationship too. Being removed from your organisation also ends it, and your administrator can remove your mentor or propose a new one.

Still not sure?

Ask us and a real person will answer. If you lead an organisation and would like to see Verve Lead with your own leaders in mind, we would be glad to show you around.
