A group is a smaller circle of people inside your organisation. An eldership, a worship team or a training intake could each be a group. Someone can belong to more than one group. Only organisation administrators set up groups, and they do it in the web app. Go to Organisation, then Groups. The page lists every group, and how many people are in each one. To create a group, type its name under Create a group, then select Create. The new group appears in the list. Select its name to open it. Choose a person from Add someone, then select Add. Repeat for each person. Adding someone does not send them anything. The list only shows people who already belong to your organisation. To take someone out, select Remove. It happens straight away, and they stay in your organisation. To delete a group, select Delete and confirm. Its members stay in your organisation too. You cannot delete a group while any programme uses it, even a finished one. The group simply stays in the list. Once a group has three or more people, an HCLA results link appears beside it. Select it to see how the group is travelling as a whole. The page shows the group average score, and an average for each of the three areas. Look at the shape across those three areas, not only the overall number. Results stay hidden until at least three members have completed an assessment. The page never shows a person’s own scores or answers. A group leader sees the same combined results, but not who is in the group. There is no link to it in a leader’s menus at the moment, so an administrator sends them the address. You cannot choose a group’s leader in the web app. To give a group a leader, contact us. The people in a group get no message when you add or remove them. You will find every step, with pictures, in the Verve Lead help guides.

A group is a smaller circle of people inside your organisation – an eldership, a worship team, a year’s intake of trainee leaders. Someone can belong to several groups.
Groups do 2 things. They show you how a circle of leaders is travelling together. They are also the base for every before-and-after programme.
Organisation administrators set up groups in the web app.
Where do I find groups?
Go to Organisation, then Groups. The page lists every group, with how many people are in it.
How do I create a group?
- Under Create a group, type the group’s name.
- Select Create.
- Select the new group’s name in the list to open it.
- Choose a person from Add someone…, then select Add. Repeat for each person.
The list only offers people who already belong to your organisation. To add someone new, invite them to your organisation first.
Adding someone to a group does not send them anything.
People can also join a group themselves by scanning a join code at an event. The code adds them to the group its programme is for.
How do I change a group?
- To take someone out, open the group and select Remove beside their name. It happens straight away. They stay in your organisation.
- To delete a group, select Delete and confirm. Everyone in it stays in your organisation – only the group goes.
You cannot rename a group in the web app at the moment.
How is a group travelling?
Once a group has 3 or more people in it, an HCLA results link appears beside it. It opens the group’s combined Health of a Christian Leader Assessment results.
The page shows:
- how many of the group’s members the figures cover
- the Group Average Score, and an average for each of the 3 areas
- a Group Profile chart of the 3 areas
- Sub-Competency Averages – the group’s average for each behavioural expression, grouped by area.
The figures use each member’s most recent completed assessment, whenever they took it. They leave out anyone who has not completed one.
If only 1 or 2 members have completed an assessment, the page says Results are hidden for this group, and how many have completed one so far. If nobody has, it says no completed assessments were found. Below 3 people, an average would give away someone’s own results.
Look at the shape across the 3 areas, not only the overall number. A team that is strong in leadership but flat in well-being may be carrying more than it shows.
I lead a group. What can I see?
A group can have a leader. The leader can open the same combined results page as an administrator, with the same rule of at least 3 people.
A group leader does not see who is in the group, or anyone’s own results, through the group.
There are 2 gaps at the moment:
- There is no link to the page in a group leader’s menus. Ask one of your organisation’s administrators to send you the address of the group’s results page. Its Back to Groups link only works for administrators.
- Administrators cannot choose a group’s leader in the web app. If you would like a group to have a leader, contact us.
What next?
- Use a group to run a before-and-after programme around a retreat or a season of mentoring.
- At an event, let people join with a code so they land in the right group.
