How do I look after the mentors I supervise?

As a Mentor of Mentors, you can see how each mentor you supervise is travelling, and open the pages of the people they mentor. Here is where to find them, and what you can and cannot see.

  • Supervisors
  • Web
  • iPhone
  • iPad

As a Mentor of Mentors, you look after the people who look after others. You can see each mentor’s own check-ins and results, and the pages of the people they mentor. That gives you context when a mentor brings a situation to you.

Supervision belongs to the Mentor of Mentors role. Other mentoring roles, including Master Mentor, do not have it. An organisation administrator who mentors an Intern Mentor sees part of it. They can see the names of that intern’s mentees, but cannot open their pages.

How does a mentor come under my supervision?

Supervision starts the same way mentoring does – with an agreement.

  1. An organisation administrator opens Organisation, then Members, and chooses you in the Mentor column on the mentor’s row. For a mentor, that list starts at No supervisor and offers only Mentors of Mentors.
  2. The mentor gets the same request a mentee gets, asking them to accept you.
  3. Once they accept, they appear on your Mentor Dashboard.

Either of you can end the relationship at any time. Go to Profile, find Mentoring relationships, and select End relationship.

Where do I see the mentors I supervise?

On the web, select Mentees in the sidebar. Your Mentor Dashboard has 2 lists:

  • Supervised Mentors – the mentors you supervise, each with how many mentees they have.
  • Your Mentees – everyone whose mentor is you. The mentors you supervise are here too, because you are their mentor.
Supervised Mentors sits above Your Mentees.

Supervised Mentors only lists people with a mentoring role in the organisation you are working in. That means Intern Mentor, Mentor, Master Mentor or Mentor of Mentors. Anyone else you mentor appears under Your Mentees only. The badge beside each supervised mentor always reads Mentor, whatever their exact role.

How is a mentor I supervise travelling?

Mentors need looking after too. A mentor’s own check-ins can be an early sign they are carrying too much.

Open the mentor from Your Mentees. You see the same page as for any mentee. It shows their latest check-in and HCLA, Buoyancy Trend and Recent Check-ins, with any notes they added.

Further down, HCLA Assessment History lists their results. If they have taken the Christian Leader Mentor Assessment (CLMA), CLMA Assessment History shows it too. Select View Results for the detail.

If a mentor you supervise checks in at 1 or 2, you get an email with their level and any note. It comes at most once in 24 hours, as it would for any mentee. See low check-in alerts.

How do I see their mentees?

  1. Under Supervised Mentors, select a mentor. Their mentees open beneath their name.
  2. Select a mentee to open their page.
Select a mentor to see who they mentor.

A mentee’s page shows you the same check-ins and results their own mentor sees. That includes the notes on their check-ins, and their HCLA and CLMA results with the answers behind them. You can keep your own notes under Your Notes. They stay private to you.

On iPhone and iPad

The Verve Lead app for iPhone and iPad is in testing.

  1. Tap Mentoring.
  2. Scroll past Your mentees to Mentors you supervise.
  3. Tap a mentor to show their mentees. You cannot open a mentor who has no mentees.
  4. Tap a mentee to open their page.

What stays out of my view?

  • A mentor’s notes about their mentees. Notes are private to the person who writes them. You do not see theirs, and they do not see yours.
  • Alerts about their mentees. When a supervised mentor’s mentee checks in at 1 or 2, the email goes to their own mentor, not to you.
  • Anyone further down the chain. Supervision reaches the mentors you supervise and their mentees. If one of those mentees mentors others too, you do not see the people they mentor.
  • Anyone after the relationship ends. If a mentor ends the relationship with you, they and their mentees leave your lists. If a mentee ends the relationship with their mentor, they leave your view too.

What next?

Supervision is often most useful when it is about the mentor. Before you look at anyone’s mentees, ask the mentor how they are going.
