What is Verve Lead for?

Verve Lead helps Christian leaders look after their own health while they lead others. It brings together 3 things:

  • a daily check-in – one question about how buoyant you are today, answered from 1 (Empty) to 6 (Full)
  • the Health of a Christian Leader Assessment (HCLA) – a fuller look at how you are travelling
  • mentoring – a trusted person who walks alongside you, with your check-ins and results in front of them.

Who is it for?

  • Leaders – pastors and ministry leaders who want to look after their own health
  • Mentors – people who walk alongside leaders, and those who supervise mentors
  • Organisations – churches, schools, networks and denominations caring for a group of leaders
  • People asked for feedback – such as a spouse, supervisor, peer or mentee, asked to answer questions about a leader or a mentor.

There are guides for each: leaders, mentors, organisations and people giving feedback.

What does the HCLA look at?

The Health of a Christian Leader Assessment looks at 3 areas:

  • psychological well-being
  • spiritual vitality
  • transformative leadership.

Inside those areas sit 25 behavioural expressions. You respond to 125 statements, each from 1 (Not true of me) to 4 (Very true of me).

Your first HCLA is your own reflection. Once you have completed it, you can also ask others for feedback:

  • 180° Feedback adds your spouse or your supervisor, or both.
  • 360° Feedback also adds peers and people who report to you.

There are no right answers and no pass mark. Read more about taking the HCLA and reading your results.

What does a mentor do?

A mentor walks alongside a leader, listens, and asks good questions. Once a leader accepts them, a mentor can:

  • see the leader’s check-ins, including any notes, and their assessment results, so they come to each conversation prepared
  • keep private notes, and print a brief before they meet
  • ask the leader to take an assessment
  • get an email if the leader checks in at 1 or 2.

Mentors can take the Christian Leader Mentor Assessment (CLMA) too. It looks at how they mentor others, across 13 mentor competencies. It opens once they have completed their own HCLA.

What can an organisation do?

Organisation administrators can:

  • invite people one at a time, or a whole list at once
  • assign mentors – each person still decides whether to accept
  • gather people into groups, and run programmes that compare results before and after, such as around a retreat
  • show a join code at an event, so people can join a programme from their phone
  • see combined figures for the organisation
  • give trusted mentors duty of care, so they can see the watchlist
  • set the organisation’s logo and colours
  • see an audit log of sensitive changes, such as roles and duty of care.

Administrators do not see anyone’s notes or answers, unless they are also that person’s mentor and the person accepted them. Organisation tools are on the web only.

How does an organisation get started?

We set up each organisation with you, so the first step is a conversation. Please contact us and tell us a little about your organisation and your leaders. We would be glad to show you around.

Can I use Verve Lead on my own?

Yes. On the sign-in page, select New to Verve Lead? Create an account. You can then do your daily check-in and take the HCLA without belonging to an organisation.

Read more about using Verve Lead on your own.

Which devices can I use?

  • The web app runs in your web browser, at app.vervelead.com.
  • The iPhone and iPad app is in testing, so not everyone can get it yet. It covers your check-in, your assessments and results, and mentoring.

Read more about the iPhone and iPad app.

Do people giving feedback need an account?

No. They answer through the link in the email we send them. Before they start, the page tells them who will see their answers.

Read more about answering a feedback request.

Who can see my results?

You can see all your own check-ins, answers and results. A mentor sees nothing until you accept them. From then on, they see your check-ins, including notes, and your results – earlier ones too. So does a mentor of mentors who supervises your mentor. Your organisation’s administrators see combined figures, not your answers – unless one of them is also your mentor. People trusted with care see a short watchlist of signals, never your notes or answers.

Who can see what? sets it all out.

Can I delete my results or close my account?

You can discard an HCLA you have not finished. A completed assessment stays on your record.

If an administrator removes you from an organisation, your account and your own results stay with you. Any mentoring relationship within that organisation ends.

There is no button to close your account yourself. If you would like it closed, please contact us.

Is Verve Lead counselling or therapy?

No. Verve Lead offers a daily check-in, an assessment of a leader’s health, and mentoring. It does not diagnose or treat anything.

If you are struggling, please talk to someone you trust, or to a doctor or other health professional.
